Radio Controlled M4 Sherman TankAmerica was way behind in the tank race at the start of World War II. The recession years in the US had meant that funding for tank development wasn't a priority on anyones list. Plus the world had just come out of "the war to end all wars" and nobody saw the need for a modern tank development program. War did come and America found itself struggling to catch up in tank warfare. The only tanks America could bring to the fight at the start of the war were the badly outdated M2. The M2 was quickly replaced by the flawed M3 and finally in 1941 the M4 Sherman became available to US armed forces. The title Sherman actually came from a British habit of naming American tanks after American Civil War Generals - yup really. The M4 Sherman was a medium tank but was more than capable of handling the German and Italian tanks of the time. It was only when it came up against the German Tiger and Panther later that it had a tough time. America didn't try to compete in the heavy tank game - they relied on playing the numbers game instead. So they went ahead and produced over 50,000 M4 Shermans during World War II - the only other tank built in bigger numbers was the Russian T34. American tanks beat their German opponents through pure strength in numbers - Germany hadn't any hope of competing with this. The M4 Sherman had a 75/76mm main gun, several machine guns and weighed in at just over 30 tonnes. It's crew of 5 could drive this war machine at up to 30mph over a range of 120 miles. Now you can own a radio controlled M4 Sherman of your very own. This 1/24th scale model has a rotating turret and a fully elevating main gun. It also features Battle Beam Technology so you can fight it out with other Forces of Valor rc tanks. This replica isn't an airsoft tank - it's main gun only fires a beam of invisible light. |
